My friends often complain that they do not have Microsoft Office installed on their computer and badly need to type a document. This usually happen after an OS reinstall. There exist options like Wordpad but most users are familiar and more at ease with the Microsoft Office application suite. Also, it may be that somebody is not at home but at some friend’s/relative’s house and need to create a Powerpoint Presentation but that friend uses OpenOffice or any other office application or worse they use iOS :S !! Online File Storage Services (Cloud Storage)

Have you ever thought of the possibility accessing your files from anywhere without having to fear about losing your thumbdrive or any other removable data? Most of you already know about it (the possibility); but do not know how to achieve that, while others do not do it in the right way. Well, some upload it to a file sharing site and note down the link and so, when they need the file, they download it and use it. Others save it as a draft email as an attachment and again download it when they need it. Ya ! I agree, these can be done, but it is not the right way, file sharing sites have filesize, speed and download limits while mail attachments have filesize limits (~25MB/file). There exist on the Web, a service that enables you to have a ‘virtual folder’, where you can keep files and access them from everywhere, even from a smartphone. How to hide files in images ?? :)

Ever thought of hiding files? Everybody did ! But everybody has his/her own way of hiding stuffs including computer files. Some use hidden folders (and forget the location of the folders sometimes 😛 ), some lock the up on online storage sites or others simply burn the files on a disk or copy the files on a removable drive and hide them physically in some drawer or safe. Most of us or rather all of us have one day or the other deleted something and regretted it afterwards. Be it an official document, an image file or a sound track. Unless you have a backup somewhere, deleting an important file can make you sleepless for several nights. Worst, if it it’s your entire hard disk; wiped clean after a format !! Pictures of the last get-together among friends, urgent scanned documents that needed to be emailed for a job application or a recipe that you saved after 2 hours of ‘googling’. So, somehow somewhere everybody needs that magical Asterix’s soup to recover these deleted files. Some years back, it was a difficult process or only security personnels/forensics guys had the skills/resources to do it. But now, with the advent of free knowledge, open-source softwares and the boom of developers, many solutions exist for the common computer users; solutions ranging from fake ones that ask you for $100 after a long 1 hours download and 15 minutes to search the files to those free and very good softwares that can compete with the commercial ones.
